Social Entrepreneurship
Raleigh City Farm is a social enterprise — a hybrid model that draws on the best qualities of for-profit and non-profit endeavors, while hopefully avoiding the pitfalls common to each.
We are a North Carolina not-for-profit corporation, with federal tax-exempt status pending. Your financial and material donations are key to helping the Farm get started. And the farm cannot amass and distribute profits to shareholders.
But whereas traditional non-profits typically rely on philanthropic and government support for their continued survival, Raleigh City Farm aims to demonstrate sustainability in its corporate model as well, meaning that, in the long-run it will sustain itself largely through the sale of its products and services (the food we grow, workshops we offer, etc.) This practice will offer greater opportunity for (green) job creation and help model the sort of responsible economic engines that a new regenerative economy so desperately needs.
